Monir Farmanfarmaian is an Iranian artist and collector who first took shape in the 1960s and 70s, when she returned to her native Iran from New York. Monir’s artistic trajectory started at the Fine Arts College of Tehran. she traveled extensively to Iran’s more remote regions, and it was during this period that traditional Persian craftsmanship, Islamic pattern design and western principles merged in the form of Monir’s distinctive art practice. The source of her inspiration is mirror works in Shiraz, the mosques, the palaces. an exhibition of her work established in march 2015 at guggenheim.
